Alberta holds first draw of 2021

On January 8, 2021, Alberta has invited the eligible Express Entry candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The eligible candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence. This draw was under the province’s latest provincial nominee program (PNP).

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has issued 50 invitations to candidates who might be qualified through the Alberta Express Entry Stream. The invited candidates should have a valid Express Entry profile with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 406.

  • Express Entry: The Express Entry System is responsible for the management of the three main economic immigration streams of Canada. These streams are:
  • Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Moreover, other provincial immigration programs are attached to the Express Entry System. The eligible candidates for the immigration programs are issued scores under the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System. The points are awarded on basic human capital factors such as age, language, work experience and language proficiency. The candidate’s CRC score is one of the major selection factors for the application for Permanent Residence. The candidates who have the highest CRS points are issued invited to apply for permanent residence.

  • Alberta Express Entry Stream:

The candidates who have their valid profiles in the Express Entry pool, they can receive an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination from Alberta. They can also receive invitations from the other provinces of Canada that have Express Entry attached Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP).

The candidates should have work experiences in the designated occupations, that support the labour markets and economic developments of the provinces.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program does provide a list of that occupation the province will not count or accept.

The list of the non-eligible professions has been updated previously, those occupations are not eligible to apply for Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in Alberta. Those candidates who received an NOI after November 1, 2020, can be selected through the Alberta Express Entry Stream.

Alberta was permitted to issue 6,250 nominations in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 situation, Alberta planned to lower the number of certificates, that is the reason there were no draws in the previous half-year. However, the number of invitations that Alberta will issue in 2021 is yet not disclosed, but we can assume a higher number of invitations from the province this year.
